Begin your project with the end in mind
This post from Project Management Tips ties in well with my earlier post about starting a project, and the need for a Project Brief.
“Begin with the End in Mind means to begin each day, task, or project with a clear vision of your desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing your proactive muscles to make things happen.” This is straight from the 7 Habits book. In my opinion, this applies to both the project view and the daily view of what a project manager is up against.
It’s a reminder of the need to define what you want your project to achieve up front, but also to check back on that definition regularly to make sure you are still on track to deliver what you set out to.

Thanks for the quote from my article. I agree with that last statement of yours about needing to check back regularly and make sure everything is still on track with what you set out to do. Too many projects get off track - sometimes due to us honestly just trying to please the customer. However, the PM needs to recognize that and work hard to stay focused on the original objects and keep the team focused (and the customer, if possible) as well.
